A detached secondary residence located in the small village of Unha, in the Aran Valley, at the foot of the rugged Pui d’Unha, offering splendid views of the valley, the glacier, and the peaks of La Maladeta. The planned residence is organized across a ground floor, a first floor, and an attic level, with similar functional layouts and floor areas on each.
The building is designed as a standalone, enclosed volume with four exposed facades, facilitating natural cross-ventilation. Its configuration is dictated by the specific geometry of the existing plots and the required setbacks from the boundaries, aiming to optimize land-use potential while ensuring a harmonious formal outcome for the resulting structure.
The façade features openings with a vertical proportion, with the exception of those on the ground floor, which connect to outdoor leisure spaces. On the upper floors, the openings follow two distinct types. Bedrooms and kitchens are fitted with two-panel, door-like windows (balcony-style openings); their proportions allow them to serve either one or two rooms, depending on the specific layout of the floor.
Finally, in the living area, a combination of three window panels—grouped in a two-plus-one configuration—has been adopted. This incorporates an intermediate structural pier, which enhances the vertical proportions of the openings while providing the living space with distinct qualities, such as increased natural light and better views. At the corners, the design shifts to further emphasize the dual orientation by rotating some of the window units, all while maintaining their vertical proportions.
The composition of these openings across the façade adheres to a principle of verticality, while simultaneously establishing varying rhythms along the horizontal plane; this creates solid wall sections of differing sizes, with uniformity restored at the ground-floor level. This approach introduces a necessary degree of irregularity, helping to integrate a façade that is longer than the local average.
