“If the architecture is any good, a person who looks and listens will feel its effects without noticing.” — Carlo Scarpa (1906–1978)

The Sierra del Montsec is a limestone mountain range spanning approximately 40 km, located between the Catalan province of Lleida and the Aragonese province of Huesca (Spain). Its Catalan section was granted protected status in 1992 under the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Plan for Areas of Natural Interest (PEIN).

This weekend retreat is conceived as a detached, single-story building, designed to capture and take advantage of its privileged views toward the Montsec range. Its clean interior space merges with the outdoors, thanks to a large glazed façade and a covered outdoor terrace—an essential feature during the summer months.

The energy strategy adopted grants the building the highest energy rating—an ‘A’—as it is a passive, nearly zero-energy building (nZEB).
